Aditya Shah

Aditya is an aspiring entrepreneur and innovator who has launched, grown and scaled companies that aim to make a difference. His interests are diverse, but he believes in providing computational solutions for problems that arise in a variety of fields. His primary focus has been the use of computational biology in the area of medical research, as well as creating IoT based solutions for the environment space.
Aditya is experienced in using machine learning, deep learning, and AI techniques for solving complex problems like wildfires. He has excellent familiarity with Machine-Learning /deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, Keras, and scikit-learn.
He is the founder of SmartIoT LLC that aims at building IoT products for the environment space. His innovations include Brilliantile, automated snow melting tile is the winner of several awards including Clean Teach, NASA Conrad Challenge, and Catapult Ideas. He has built a Smart Wildfire Sensor, using Google’s open source machine learning tool TensorFlow that helps predict where wildfires are most likely to occur. His solution analyzes images of biomass to estimate the moisture content and the size to determine the amount of dead fuel in a given area.
Aditya was invited to give a lightning talk at Google’s ‘ AI for Social Good’ event. Aditya shared his knowledge and expertise with the scholars in the Environment & AI field during the event.

Sanjana Shah

Sanjana is a senior at Monta Vista High School with a deep interest in leveraging Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to solve complex environmental problems that continue to exist today. Her journey began by employing IoT technology to create a Smart Flood Sensor that predicts and prevents flooding in city streets. Her work was recognized by EPA at The White House where she received the Environmental Youth Award by the President of the United States.
Later, with the use of Google’s Tensorflow™ Sanjana partnered with Aditya and created the Smart Wildfire Sensor, a device that can predict locations where wildfires are prone to occur by automatically classifying biomass fuel images into standard fuel categories, thus eliminating the need for park rangers to physically explore forest areas. Their work was referenced in Google CEO’s blog “AI at Google: our principles.” and later they were invited to give a lightning talk at Google’s ‘AI for Social Good’ event.
Sanjana has also received the Eco-Hero Award from Action for Nature and the Environmental Excellence Award for her projects. For the past two summers, she has been researching and implementing a new numeric format, POSIT, at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, in Computational Research Division.


Ralph Dubayah

Ralph Dubayah is Professor of Geographical Sciences, his main areas of interest are ecosystem characterization for carbon modeling, habitat and biodiversity studies, land surface energy and water balance modeling, spatial analysis and remote sensing science. A common goal of his research is to develop and apply emerging technologies of spatial data acquisition and analysis to address environmental issues at policy-relevant scales. He has been an investigator for numerous NASA projects, including two Interdisciplinary Science Investigations (IDS) on the use of remote sensing for hydrological and ecosystem modeling, and has recent awards as PI for NASA’s Carbon Management System (CMS) and the ICESAT2 mission. He was also principal investigator (1997-2000) for the Vegetation Canopy Lidar (VCL), a NASA mission to measure the three-dimensional structure of the Earth’s forests for carbon assessments. He has served in various national and international organizations and has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Geophysical Research (Biogeosciences), is on the editorial board of Remote Sensing of Environment and Remote Sensing, and was the Co-Lead Author for the CEOS Strategy for Carbon Observations from Space (2014). He is currently the Science Definition Team Co-Leader for NASA’s NISAR mission and a Science Team member for CMS. He was recently chosen (2014) as PI for the Global Ecosystems Dynamics Investigation Lidar (GEDI) as part of NASA’s Earth Ventures Instrument 2 (EVI-2) competition.
GEDI is led by the University of Maryland, in collaboration with NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center, and will deploy a multibeam lidar instrument onboard the International Space Station to measure the forest vertical structure and biomass.

Ratan has over 25 years of experience in auditing a wide range of private and public software, semiconductor, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies.
Ratan was the Controller of a manufacturing company in Canada and has worked for a decade in Deloitte’s Silicon Valley audit practice where he also gained international audit experience.
Ratan is adept in the accounting of complex transactions and areas, in particular, revenue recognition (Including ASC 606 assessments and implementations), stock-based compensation, business combinations, goodwill impairment, equity and debt
financial instruments, and the fair value valuation of non-marketable securities. He has led audit engagements that included SOX assessments, and has led the audits of multiple software, SaaS and semiconductor companies in their initial public offerings (IPOs).
